Our platform serves hundreds of thousands of retail clients alongside a dedicated OTC desk for institutional and high-volume traders. We're a small, close-knit team that values transparency, thoughtful engineering, and taking real care of our customers.

Role Overview

The Director of Finance & HR is a key leader within Netcoins, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and collaborating closely with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and the operational team. Approximately 80% of the role focuses on overseeing core financial reporting and operational finance activities, supporting the CFO in executing the company’s financial strategy to maintain a strong financial position and ensure CIRO regulatory compliance and reporting. The remaining 20% is split between HR, risk management and corporate secretarial matters. This role is ideal for CPA with some years of financial reporting experience, with interest in expanding their knowledge and experience into other functional areas of a small to medium size business.
 
The role is a 14-month fixed term contract position with flexible starting date in September or October 2026.

Responsibilities and Duties

The responsibilities and expectations of the Director of Finance & HR are outlined below:
 
Financial Reporting and Compliance
  • Oversee the preparation, accuracy, and timely distribution of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, Form-1 and other relevant periodic regulatory filings.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies, coordinating external audits and managing relationships with auditors.
  • Maintain the integrity of financial reporting processes and ensure accurate reporting of multi-entity financial data.
  • Monitor adherence to accounting standards (IFRS, US GAAP and CIRO rules)
 
Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Assist the CFO with annual budgeting process, working closely with CEO/COO to develop detailed, realistic budgets.
  • Coordinate the forecasting process, updating forecasts as needed to reflect changing business conditions and strategic initiatives.
  • Review budget-to-actual variance analysis, providing insights into performance trends and recommending actions for improvement.
 
Collaboration and Cross-functional Support
  • Collaborate with department leaders to align financial plans with strategic business objectives, providing financial insights and guidance.
  • Work closely with operations on ad hoc projects, providing financial expertise to support key business initiatives and compliance efforts.
  • Coordinate and manage the external audit process, ensuring timely and accurate responses to audit inquiries and adherence to audit timelines.
  • Collaborate with tax advisors, legal counsel, and consultants as needed to support compliance and strategic initiatives.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with banks and other financial partners to support the company’s financial strategies, and support periodic reviews

Human Resources Management
  • Collaborate with leadership team and/or team leads on recruiting effort, posting job descriptions, determining pay range, interviewing, communicating offer etc.
  • Coordinate onboarding activities, including drafting employment contract, managing internal communication on accesses, device arrangement, etc.
  • Process terminations, and manage offboarding logistics
  • Administer and approve payroll, administer leave programs, benefits enrollment, renewals, and employee questions
  • Administer annual performance reviews
  • Ownership of HRIS, employment handbook and other relevant HR policies
 
Risk Management and Corporate Secretarial matters
  • Ensure SOC compliance through performing periodic tasks, collaborate with DevOps Lead to review and update InfoSec policies
  • Coordinate and manage the external SOC audit process, including evidence collection and submission
  • Manage access to trust center, issue bridging letter, provide external audit confirmation to clients where required
  • Draft corporate resolutions, manage annual filings etc.
 
Team Leadership and Development
  • Mentor and manage finance team members, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and professional development
  • Drive process improvements within finance operations, enhancing efficiency and accuracy in reporting and analysis

Qualifications and Skills

 
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree: Required in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field
  • Professional Certification: CPA or similar financial certifications are required, demonstrating advanced knowledge of financial management

Experience
  • Financial Leadership: 5 to 7 years of experience in finance roles, with a proven track record in financial management, reporting, and analysis
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience in working with cryptocurrency, blockchain technologies, or fintech, with a solid understanding of digital assets and their regulatory landscape
  • Compliance & Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with CIRO (formerly IIROC) investment dealer regulatory requirements and financial compliance practices, ensuring adherence to tax regulations and governance standards
  • Operational Experience: Experience in managing financial operations and implementing processes and handling multiple tasks with various deadlines.
  • Exposure to HR management is an asset

Communication Skills
  • Financial Reporting: Ability to present complex financial data and reports clearly to various stakeholders, including senior management and non-financial teams
  • Strategic Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of influencing decision-making and fostering collaboration across departments
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Experience in working with various internal teams to align goals with overall business objectives, enhancing organizational performance
 
Technology/Software
  • Financial Software Proficiency: Experience with advanced financial management software (Quickbook/Netsuite etc.) and exceptional Excel skills
  • Experience with AI tool: Usage familiarity with AI tool (Claude/ ChatGPT) and how it interacts with accounting software
  • Data Analytics: Familiarity with data analytics tools and techniques to assess financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement
 
Interpersonal Skills
  • Leadership & Team Management: Demonstrated leadership abilities, with a focus on developing and mentoring finance team members to achieve high performance
  • Analytical & Problem-solving Skills: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, adept at addressing financial challenges and identifying actionable solutions
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment, adjusting strategies as needed to support organizational goals and respond to changing market conditions

Compensation

$120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
